The Boys’ Brigade ‘Badges of the Brigade’
Vol. One: The Boys’ Brigade ‘Badges of the Brigade’ is packed with photographs and information on the history of the B.B.’s. Written by Rob Bolton, Les Howie and Bob Mandry the large format book is an encyclopaedia on the organisation founded in the 1880’s.
When the 1st Company (Stockbridge) was formed the boys drilled with carbines provided by the Edinburgh Artillery Volunteers while the 50th Company based at Lady Lawson Street had a field gun although it was not permitted to be wheeled out for battalion parades.
The book contains a photograph of Ted Maconochie. A real character, Ted was also a founder member of the Scottish Military Collectors Society.
A keen BB and military badge collector, the semi-pro dance band musician and bugler would have been a member of the One o’ Clock Gun & Time Ball Association if he’d been around today.
The book is available from lhowie@talk21.com or Kays Bookshop, 390 Morningside Road, Edinburgh EH10 5HX. Price £20.00.
