The Lord Provost

Blue in Mons MegThe Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh will be attending the ceremony for Bum on 10th November. The event will take place at the San Diego dog’s statue in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh after the District Gunner, Sergeant Shannon fires the One o’ Clock Gun.

The ceremony is being held to raise awareness of the Edinburgh / San Diego Sister Association. Special guest John C. Wilson was responsible for arranging for Bum's statue to be set up in the Gardens in 2008.

Member Isobel Skeldon will be presenting the Legend of Greyfriars Bobby supported by Bombardier Blue in the Lindisfarne Room, St. Cuthbert's Church following the ceremony.

Our Chairman Brian McKenzie will also give a brief history of the One o' Clock Gun.

This week’s photograph shows Brian and the Bombardier re-enacting the scene from Eleanor Atkinson's novel when Greyfriars Bobby pays a visit to the King's bastion, Edinburgh Castle.

As Bobby dashed up to the citadel, still barking, the man (Sgt. Scott) jumped to his feet. Then he slapped his thigh and laughed. Catching the animated little bundle of protest the sergeant set him up for inspection on the shattered breech of Mons Meg.
