The name of the Association has now been changed

Time BallAs can be seen on the banner, the name of the Association has now been changed.

Although the new name is a bit of a mouthful, the committee felt that as we are now involved in setting up a time ball exhibition at the Nelson Monument in collaboration with Edinburgh World Heritage and the City of Edinburgh Council, the new title is appropriate.

When the time gun was proposed, the intention was to place it on the Calton Hill. As the sound of the gun going off would have upset the observatory’s instruments, the gun was sited on the Half Moon Battery, Edinburgh Castle and connected to the observatory by an electric wire over 4,000 feet long.

The scaffolding inside the monument is preventing the time ball from being operated at present but as the project is on schedule it should be back in service in a couple of weeks.

The Association’s Greyfriars Bobby exhibition at the Edinburgh Room, Central Library is attracting a lot of attention and may be moving to the Mitchell Library, Glasgow at some time in the near future.
