Cincinnati Time Ball

In 1874 a time ball was installed at the Cincinnati Observatory, Ohio, U.S.A. The black painted ball which was five feet in diameter was hoisted by windlass to the top of a sixty foot mast situated behind the building. Photograph courtesy of Cincinnati Observatory.
