Coastguard Station at North Berwick

Colonel BoxerA plan has been put forward  to convert the Coastguard Station at North Berwick, East Lothian into a take-away.

Built in 1857, the historic building still stands on the Anchor Green. A volunteer  company operated the rocket apparatus used to fire a rescue line from the shore across the bows of a stricken vessel.

The rocket was designed by Colonel Edward Boxer, Superintendent  of the Royal Laboratory at Woolwich. Colonel Boxer also designed the friction-tubes for the One o’ Clock Gun.

The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland will give a lunchtime charity concert at Canongate Kirk, the Royal Mile, Edinburgh on Tuesday 5th April at one o’ clock to raise funds for Gardening Leave.

The horticultural therapy project set up to improve the mental and physical health of ex-service personnel was started by Anna Baker Cresswell in 2007. www.gardeningleave.org.
