Edward McCarthy

Edward McCarthyEdward McCarthy who served as District Gunner from 1968 to 1972 died peacefully at his home on Monday night.

Although he was a member of the Royal Corps of Transport, he also held the rank of bombardier.

In addition to meeting many high profile visitors including heads of state and the Duke of Edinburgh during his time at the Castle, he loved having his photograph taken with the tourists.

Eddie who was also Chairman of the One o’ Clock Gun Association for a spell, was a keen historian. He enjoyed going on field trips around his local area with his friend Eddie Anderson and posting the results on the Twa Eddies web site. www.timegun.org.

The photograph taken by John Lovie shows Eddie unveiling Frederick James Ritchie’s plaque at 6 Brunton Place earlier this year.

A colourful character and a true Scot, Eddie McCarthy will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
