On 1st June 1861
On 1st June 1861, approximately 300 cards were sent from the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Edinburgh inviting distinguished guests to witness the first official firing of the One o’ Clock Gun.
The guest list included the Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh, the Provost of the Port of Leith and the Commander of the Forces in North Britain.
A re-enactment of the first official firing of the One o’ Clock Gun will take place on the Half Moon Battery, Edinburgh Castle on Saturday, 11th June. The Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh, Major General Shaw Governor of Edinburgh Castle, Ruth Parsons Chief Executive Historic Scotland and Lieutenant Colonel Huthwaite commanding officer of 105th Regt. R.A. (V.) will be among the distinguished guests invited to attend the historic event.
We are confident that the time-gun will fire bang on time as RSM Roxby’s gunners have been training hard over the last few weeks to ensure that the event is a success.
