Founded in 1924,

Royal ObservatoryFounded in 1924, the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh began holding meetings in the City Observatory in 1953.

In 2008 due to the deteriorating condition of the building, it was decided to move to the Augustine Church Centre, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh.

The Society's main programme consists of monthly Ordinary Meetings, which feature a short presentation given by a member, or a preview of the month’s night sky, followed by a talk by a guest speaker on a topic of general interest.

Admission is free and non-members are welcome.

The next meeting takes place on Friday 3rd February at 8.00 when Alan Pickup of the Visitor Centre, Royal Observatory, Edinburgh will present a Starlab show consisting of a mobile, indoor projection system similar to a planetarium.
