Maria Furbelli with Bombardier Allison Jones

Marie and AllisonThis week’s photograph shows Maria Furbelli with Bombardier Allison Jones 105th Regt. RA (V) on the Mills Mount Battery.

Maria flew to Edinburgh from Italy last week to research details on Greyfriars Bobby. Not only did Maria retrace the trail followed by the world famous dog when he first appeared in Greyfriars burial ground, she also dropped the time-ball on the Nelson Monument as Bombardier Jones fired the One o’Clock Gun bang on time.

The silver model of the One o’ Clock Gun presented to the One o' Clock Gun & Time Ball Association by 105th Regt. RA (V) is presently on display at the City Chambers.

The model will remain on exhibition until the end of this year. Friday marks the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Admiral Lord Nelson's signal will be flown as usual from the Nelson Monument and the annual wreath laying ceremony will take place in the morning.

Five of the ships taking part in the epic battle were commanded by Scots captains.
