In days gone by
In days gone by, before the arrival of the telly changed the tradition, the citizens of Edinburgh would gather at the Tron Kirk on Hogmanay to welcome the New Year.
They would then go first footing which meant visiting their friends and neighbours to wish them good luck for the coming year.
As Big Ben strikes midnight, Sergeant Shannon will be firing Mons Meg from the Castle to announce the arrival of the new decade while Edinburgh City Council has invited the One o' Clock Gun & Time Ball Association’s Chairman to drop the time ball on the Nelson Monument.
If you’re planning to visit the Calton Hill to see the U.K.’s finest firework display on New Year’s Eve don’t hesitate to introduce yourself to Brian and wish him a happy New Year. Blue the Association’s mascot won’t be helping Brian out as he traditionally brings the New Year in at Buckie.
The Chairman and Committee hope you keep healthy and have lots of good luck during the coming year.
