Hundreds of entries

World Animal DayHundreds of entries were received for the One o’ Clock Gun Childrens’ Painting Competition organised to mark the 150th anniversary of the setting up of the world's most famous time gun.

The amazing variety of artwork showing the time gun as it looked in the past, present and the future including an entry from an artist aged two and a quarter years gave Edinburgh based cartoonist and children's book illustrator John Fardell the difficult task of picking the winners.

Sarah Boyack MSP will be using one of the winning designs on this year's Christmas card.

This week’s photograph shows Sarah entering Greyfriars Churchyard accompanied by Brian McKenzie the One o' Clock Gun & Time Ball Association's Chaiman kitted out as Colour Sergeant Scott and Pipe Major Anderson when she led the walk from Bum's statue in West Princes Street Gardens to Greyfriars Bobby's grave to mark World Animal Day a couple of years ago
