James Findlay died last week.

James FindlayJames Findlay died last week. James was an enthusiastic supporter of the One o’ Clock Gun & Time Ball Association’s activities.

The Royal Navy stoker who served two commissions aboard H.M.S. Belfast was the Royal Navy Association's standard bearer. His funeral will take place in the Lorimer Chapel, Warriston Crematorium, Edinburgh at 11.00 am on Friday 13th August.

The photograph shows James on the right during the ceremony to unveil the memorial stone for Colour Sergeant Scott R.E. which was held at Piershill Cemetery.

James was proud of the fact that he had the same name as Chief Master Gunner Findlay who supervised the setting up the One o’ Clock Gun in 1861 and would often bring up the fact in conversation.

He was also on parade with his standard during the ceremony held in St. Cuthbert's graveyard to unveil the gunner's headstone.

A larger than life character who called a spade a spade and a lover of Burns' poetry, Jimmy will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
