whitehaven gunThe time gun which stands on the port’s harbour quay is normally fired every Friday at 1.00 pm. In addition to being fired on naval and military occasions such as Rememberance Day, the gun can also be fired by members of the public to celebrate birthdays or weddings.

The novice gunners are instructed in the necessary safety procedures required to fire the gun and after firing are issued with an Honorary Whitehaven Gunner’s certificate.

The photograph of the Whitehaven time gun was sent by Rob. Visitors from all over the world will be arriving in Edinburgh for the Gathering which takes place in the Queen’s Park this weekend.

Visitors to our One o’clock Gun Exhibition at Edinburgh Castle should ask to speak to Sgt. Shannon the District Gunner. If he’s not too busy he’ll give you a run down on the time gun’s history
