The time gun which stands on the port’s harbour quay is normally fired every Friday at 1.00 pm. In addition to being fired on naval and military occasions such as Rememberance Day, the gun can also be fired by members of the public to celebrate birthdays or weddings.

The novice gunners are instructed in the necessary safety procedures required to fire the gun and after firing are issued with an Honorary Whitehaven Gunner’s certificate.
