Lyttelton time-ball station

Sergeant SmithWe’ve received an e-mail from Jan Titus the station manager at the Lyttelton time-ball station.

The damage to the station caused by the New Zealand earthquake is extensive. Jan will be sending photographs of the time-ball station which we'll post on the website as soon as we receive them.

Sergeant Sarah Smith, 4th Regiment R.A. fired the One o’Clock Gun to mark the centenary of International Women’s Day on 8th March. Sergeant Smith from Blyth in Northumberland has served in Afghanistan and is presently training on the 155mm AS90 self-propelled gun. Sergeant Smith has her sights set on becoming an instructor at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and we hope she achieves her ambition.

The District Gunner, Sergeant Shannon returns to the Castle on Monday. The One o’ Clock Gun has been fired by Sergeant Steven Gray while Sergeant Shannon has been on leave.
