The Time Ball & Battle of Trafalgar exhibition

The Time Ball & Battle of Trafalgar exhibition at the Nelson Monument opened to the public on Saturday 26th September.
As it co-incided with the city’s annual Open Doors Day events, the custodian Margaret McLaughlan had to cope with a long queue of locals and visitors keen to see the newly refurbished monument.
The queue grew longer and longer due to the visitors taking time to study the first class display boards designed by Lyndsey Bowditch’s team at Studioarc. Two re-enactment actors, one dressed as naval veteran John Doig who served as a powder monkey on HMS. Victory during the Battle of Trafalgar entertained the waiting crowds, while his female companion dressed as Mrs Kerr the monument’s first caretaker welcomed visitors at the front door.
David Hicks of Edinburgh World Heritage was on hand to make sure that the opening went smoothly. David’s colleague David McDonald who also worked on the project is moving to a new job. David a loyal supporter of the One o’ Clock Gun & Time Ball Association will be greatly missed.
Only a few days to go to World Animal Day. Don’t forget to turn up with your pet at Bum’s statue at 1.30 pm on Sunday 4th October.
